Artist Statement

I am a Film major. I was born in China and have been living in the U.S. for more than 11 years. When I was younger, I would often pay more attentions to how actors act in films or in TV-shows more than the storylines themselves. Besides studying on actors, I would also pay attention to the camera movements, the editing, and how the show is filmed. Soon enough, that became a habit. So, I thought I should try to make some videos on my own. I have made a few videos with my friends for other friends’ birthdays and I thought it was the best experiences. I’ve never imagine it would be so difficult, yet very fun, to produce a video to make someone feel happy or entertained. I like the process of creating a short video (except coming up with a story – because it too hard). That is why I’ve decided to major in Film; to learn more about filmmaking. What I Hear

My work place is in Flushing, Queens. I go to Flushing almost 5-6 days a week. The neighborhood I picked is Main Street in Flushing, around 12PM. Usually when I walk in this crowded area, I would have my headphones on and keep the music playing. In order to allow my ears to be exposed to every sound around me, I would put away my headphones. As soon as I step out of the 7 train, I start to hear the footsteps of people rushing towards to the stairs so that they can get out of this hot and crowded train station. There is sound from a train leaving the station. Even with the sound from the train, I can still hear some people breathing around me, that is how crowded it is to get up the stairs from the Flushing, Main St. train station. Getting out to the street is another annoying thing. Besides having people walking very slow in-front of me, they’re also talking very loud. It is over crowed everywhere in the streets.
