Museum of the Moving Image
This is my first visit at the Museum of the Moving Image. When I
first got there, I really liked the interior of this building. We were divided
into groups and I ended up with a guide called Alex I believe. When I first
joined with Alex, the group is at a place that has a lot of models that were
used in some well-known movies and TV Shows such as Star Wars and The Blade
Runner. I was able to see how small one of the planet and the spaceship
that were appeared in Star Wars. Alex
told us that they used those models to film in a dark/black background so that
it would look like it’s in space. The building that is in The Blade Runner is also very cool because of the details on it.
Later, we get to see some very old filmmaking cameras as
well as cameras that were being used on live television. Those live television
cameras are very big and they don’t use films, instead the recording is being
transferred through signals. We proceed to a place where we got to see a live
thaumatrope with the bird and cage (although I didn’t really find it as
fascinating as I thought it would be.) We then went into a tiny sound proof
room that was for recording voice-overs. It was very funny seeing some of the
students dubbing for a character in a scene. After that we went to do some sound
effects for a scene in The Terminator,
which was also hilarious. In the end, I have decided to play a bit of Mortal
Combat in one of those arcade machines before I leave the place.
During this exhibition, I was able to see in person of how
technology has evolved; from thaumatropes to film cameras, then there are live
television cameras. There are also a bunch of old televisions and radios place
in order to show us how technology has changed.
